Arizona Wedding Photographer | Micah and Mia

I had the incredible honor of photographing my nephew Micah’s Wedding this past March. It was a wild role for me playing photographer and being a family member for this gorgeous day. I didn’t know how to separate the two until after and before the day you could say. It was amazing to be in the behind scenes helping set up the reception with my parents and two sisters. Watching my sister Jen process her son getting married…ahhh, that was crazy to me. You grow up and you blink and pretty soon your babies do as well. SO many emotions just as an Aunt I can’t imagine as the mom. I guess you could say it really brought to my attention just how much emotion all my clients families are feeling. Its a powerful day and one that brings about expectations, hopes and such beautiful memories. Jen and I got to spend most of the day together and I absolutely loved that. She carted us around on golf carts, adjusted dresses, fixed ties, laughed with her son…its pretty rare that Mom’s get to be so involved and I loved that for her. Can I just say every wedding should have golf carts now haha…it really saved us from a ton of walking.

Micah and Mia shared a beautiful non first look prayer at the Redemption Church. This was built with such stunning detail. I loved the soft light and the wall of hand written prayers from various church members. Micah and Mia held hands, laughed and shared their hopes and dreams in a sweet prayer together. Just beautiful and set the tone for the day. I loved watching Micah’s reaction to Mia walking towards him down the aisle. He was so overcome with emotion…pretty sure everyone had tears in their eyes after that point as well. Having Matt my brother in law and Micah’s Dad marry them was amazing and so unique. It made for such a heartfelt ceremony filled with personal stories of raising Micah and seasons of having Mia in their home. I know Jen has often said that getting Maddie and Mia in their home created such an incredible bond in their family.

Being a wedding photographer AND a family member…like I said I didn’t process my emotions till I sat down and looked at the images from the day later on that week. I was tearing up looking through all of them. This is why I do what I do. I felt what most families do when scrolling through images of their son, daughter, cousin, aunt, uncle, grandma grandpa or sister and brothers do. It brought about the importance of documenting moments, days, people to the front for me. I don’t want to say I was callous towards it. I think its always been important to me but it really made it personal. So heres to 2022 and all the moments I get to capture for my clients.

I’m not the writer of the family that is for sure. 😉 But I love you Driesbach family. Thank you for having me document this incredible day! It was such an honor! Micah and Mia, can’t wait for our next big family get together to hear more about your latest adventures! Much love to you both!
