Katie and Lindsay | Ballet | Colorado Fine Art Photographer

March 7, 2013

A dream shoot…or a bucket list session as my sister Jen from kreatid likes to call it.  A long, long, long time ago I was a little girl dancing on the big stage…okay, so it was a rec center stage but to a 6 year old it was huge and I was going to be famous.  I used to watch the older girls in their pointe shoes, their beautiful grace and gorgeous ballerina buns…and I would think someday maybe I could do that.  But I just wasn’t meant to be a dancer.  Fast forward to a few years ago and I’m listening to a song by One Republic and I’m imagining photographing ballerinas in a beautiful field in their dramatic gorgeousness.   So to say that ballerina’s have always been fascinating to me would be an understatement.  The smooth way they move and dance…the grace…I just love the feminine beauty of ballerina’s.    For this session, I wanted to create something that came out as dark and light…inspired by black swan and all the drama of darkness taking over, you could say.  A session, where I just get to be an artist…the why…simply because its important to me to use my camera and stretch myself differently.

Katie and Lindsay brought a gorgeous intensity and embraced the concept of light and dark beautifully.  You are both so incredibly gorgeous and sweet.  Taking on the bitter cold and wind to dance in a field wearing a tutu…so impressed with you guys and your determination.    Thank you thank you for allowing me to pursue this.

Bringing on the talent of Twigs and Posies…it was such an honor to work with them.   Amber and Catherine are artists in the floral industry.  They take different textures and colors and create works of art in their floral bouquets, headpieces and garlands.  They completely grasped the drama and grace I was going for.  I could not recommend them enough for any occasion.  Simply amazing.

My Mom and my sister Jen flew out for this session…to have them be part of making a dream come true for me…simply priceless.  Watching my Mom help in anyway possible, wrap blankets around Katie and Lindsay, whooshing fabric at times, carrying whatever needed to be carried…all with a smile on her face.  My parents have always been so supportive of all of us kids…and it meant so much to me to have her there to see it.  Love you Mom!

Jen, the unique, modern, editorial mastermind behind kreatid.  Drive and passion….yes, words I would use to describe her.   She is my partner for weddings…and she is simply irreplaceable to me.  As a friend, as a sister and as a creative photographer whom I admire…I am so blessed to have you be part of this session.

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. ” – Harriet Tubman

So yes, I am not changing the world…but I’m definitely a dreamer.  And this was so fun for me to watch it all come together!  Enjoy a few of our pics from that crazy cold afternoon!
