Colorado Springs Wedding Photographer

A few years ago I photograph Whitney and Justin’s beautiful and very anthropology inspired Colorado Springs Wedding.  Whitney had found this gorgeous abandoned house and we photographed her wedding day portraits there.  I felt a sense of curiosity about this house.  Who lived here before…who walked the halls, what was their story?   When Whitney emailed me a few years later telling me they just had their son Levi and was wondering if I’d like to revisit the place of their wedding portraits…I said YES.  Absolutely yes.   Creatively for me, this session just lit me up.  They are not your everyday family portraits and I loved that.  Whitney has such an artistic soul and wanted her first family photos to be something unique but personal for her.  I loved how she brought in an old rocking crib that her Papa had for his family when they were growing up.  To have photos of Levi in them…gosh just so amazing.  This family holds a special place for me and I love that Whitney brought her parents…we were able to have a few of just Whitney and Justin while Grandma helped put Levi back to sleep.

I don’t normally post family portraits on my blog but I’d love for you to check out a few of my favorites from this old abandoned building.

  1. Oh wow. What a unique idea for a newborn session. I love every image and I’m sure the family does too. Colorado Springs sounds like such a pretty place. And by the looks of it is also very beautiful.

Wow. I have never seen a newborn session like this one before. I absolutely adore the location and posing! That very first image in the house is my favorite!

  3. Elizabeth! I LOVE the contrast of the grunginess of the abandoned house against the gentleness of their affection. I think it’s wonderful to have “before” and “After” photos as their family grows.

  4. Laura P says:

The abandoned house makes me thinking of their future they are building. It starts off as a shell (just the strong walls) and over the years will develop into more and more of the dreams they have. Oh well it’s probably just me – LOL.

Lovely photos and congrats to the new baby in their family.

  5. Who knew an abandoned house could be a beautiful place for a newborn photoshoot. You are very talented and these pictures are lovely.

This is the most unique family shoot i’ve seen in a long time! Spot on with anthropology. I totally connected with what you said about wondering who walks those floors before. I wonder that so much when visiting old places, what it would be like to see what those walls had.

  7. April says:

Oh my goodness. I sooo love these newborn photos! This location is amazing and so unique!! I would absolutely love to have a session like this with my family!

  8. EJ says:

Wow! What an interesting concept! I love the juxtaposition between the new baby and old house.

  9. Melissa says:

I love your creativity in this session! The old and the new. I love old buildings and Colorado Springs must have a ton of them all over the place.

  10. Sarah says:

Oh wow ! I really love the idea of returning to the spot you photographed them before. These are great shots!

  11. This is so cool! The rugged old house contrasting the beautiful new baby was something I had never seen before, and I loved it! You clearly think outside of the box and are willing to try new things and I really think it paid off in this shoot. Really loved looking through all of them!
