Dream Lake – Rocky Mountain National Park – Jake and Molly

Okay, this engagement session up at Rocky Mountain National Park was one for the books lol.  You know that that the mountains are going to give you all sorts of drama but especially up in the winter.  And this ended up being a very mild day up at Dream Lake Colorado.  About 40’s during the day but that wind though…its no joke.  I met up with Jake and Molly in town…we ended up heading in about an hour later than expected so we started our hike booking it a bit faster than normal.  OMG you guys…I do crossfit pretty much on the regular but this hike was a lot of uphill and had a lot of ice.  So bring those yaks!  They were a game changer.  So we are hiking in and talking and laughing and really I was enjoying myself quite a bit…but its only supposed to be about a mile and a bit more in to dream lake.  But everything looks different in the winter.  We ended up doing a loop and hiking double the amount.  The sun was WAY down at that point and I could have made the decision to call it at that point.  But its always been my dream to make it to Dream Lake.  See what I did there. 😉  Haha.  Anyway, I said hey guys…lets go for it.  Jake and Molly agreed and we found the correct trail this time and hiked pretty hard to make it to one of the most breathtaking views I’ve ever seen in Colorado.  Just before we got to Dream Lake I heard this loud waterfall sound…seriously, it was pretty loud.  YOU GUYS!!!!  It was the wind.     Despite the rough start, and the wind and the cold and the sun all ready having set…this was seriously an incredible moment for me.  I love that my job takes me on adventures like this.  That the couples I meet are laid back want to have beautiful photos and go fun places but ultimately just trust that I’ll get what we need for their session.   On our way back from Dream Lake with our hand warmers in our mittens the moon was on epic display.  I’ve never seen Moon Alpine Glow.  Its a thing!  I’ve never photographed the sky with all colors just off of the moon.  Absolutely stunning!  So moral of the story…if you are headed into Rocky Mountain National Park be prepared for all the things.  I had a backpack filled with hand warmers and water bottles and yaks…and its a session that will forever be one of my favorites.  Thank you Molly and Jake for being so incredible to work with.  For showing me what your beautiful love looks like.  I can not wait to photograph you guys for your wedding next summer!
